[UPDATE 04/03/20 15:00 IST] : The update will be rolled out soon to all the supported devices. Stay tuned.
WhatsApp finally rolled out the most awaited dark mode on iOS and Android today. After a year long teasing, WhatsApp made the dark mode available for testing to the beta users recently. The new theme is now available to its 2 billion users globally.
“It’s designed to reduce eye strain in low light environments. And we hope it helps prevent those awkward moments where your phone lights up the room. – WhatsApp Inc.”
Well, the advantage of using dark mode in any app is improving readability, reducing damage to eyes and those are same with the WhatsApp dark mode.
Here’s how you can enable it
If you are using Android 10 or iOS 13 with system-wide dark mode enabled, WhatsApp will automatically switch to dark mode. In all the other cases just follow the steps to set it manually.
- Update to the latest version of WhatsApp.
- Go to Settings.
- Open Chats.
- In the Display section, tap on Theme.
- Choose Dark and Click on OK.
Once you do these steps, you should see the dark mode enabled on your WhatsApp. If you are facing any troubles in switching to dark mode, simply restart your application and you are good to go. The Dark mode is completely black in iOS while it has a slighter grey tint on Android mobiles.
On the other hand, WhatsApp is also testing to let users encrypt the chat backups with a password. This feature is right now under development and we are expecting it to be launched soon.
